Puy Sportsman's Show

I spent the weekend at the Sportsman's Show working the Quantum booth for my friend Matt. I didn't really look around too much as it seems to be always the same stuff. I actually enjoy selling the fishing products...it takes me back to my retail days in college.

It has been 3 years since I've been at the Puyallup show. They had built a larger building to host most the product vendors. It was actually nice and definitely better than the multiple buildings they had some years ago.

The traffic wasn't as good. Maybe because of the cold snap we're in that people didn't want to venture out on the icy roads. Anyway, we did the best with the folks that showed up. Saturday was a long day from 10 to 8 p.m. Sunday was a bit easier as it ended at 4 p.m. We had some really good deals going and I think folks just wasn't aware or just didn't know what to look for. Oh well. We'll see how we do at the Portland show in 2 weeks.

Spending sucks

Nothing really new to write about. I'm still accumulating my arsenal for this season's tuna runs. Every time I cross something off my list, I think of yet another new thing to add. It's a vicious cycle and the list is never ending. My latest obsession is to complete my ditch bag. I've got most of what I need...handheld vhf, strobe light, smoke, flares, whistle, light sticks, etc. The biggest expenditure is going to be on an EPIRB. They are at least $550 for a decent 406. I hope to get that next month.

I've got a Penn 133h coming from eBay. Getting gear from eBay has saved me a ton of money so far. I've been able to get a lot of 8 4.5 ounce jigs for less than 30 bucks. A lot of 6 cedar plugs for also less than 30 bucks. I've got one more Penn 113h reel to get and I'm done with halibut gear.

I also ordered a Leer 100XL canopy for the truck. Those fucking things are expensive. $1800 bucks for a shell to put over a truck. Insanity! But, for us it's a necessity.

Gone loopy

Faaaakkk...all this rain. The weather is driving me loopy. It's cold. It's always dark and it's always freakin' raining! I've absolutely lost any motivation to venture outside. I just want to stay in my bed tucked underneath the warm blankets. Wake me up in March!
