1st Race

1997 was when I last raced a mountain bike. It's now 2011 and I decided to throw myself in the beginner race at Soaring Eagle Park north of Seattle. The weather held and gave us a dry albeit muddy and cold. My group started first. I started strong and was near the front but quickly faded away.

This is my 3rd ride since I got the used bike and in more than 5 years. I set my expectations fairly low and wanted to finish the race in under 1 hour. I almost did it. I finished at 1:03, putting me in last place of 7 guys in the class. The 1st place finisher in my class did the 2 laps in 46 minutes! I had fun anyway. Its great motivation to get in better shape.

Back in the Saddle

Duck season is over and fishing season is still a few months away. I need something to do. After a 12+ year hiatus from mountain biking, I decided to ride again to get in shape and loose some pounds. I bought a used Specialized Stumpjumper off eBay. I will enjoy riding once more. I will even get into some races.
