Skunkin' while Duckin'

Went to the beach for a shoot with Clint on Friday. Weather was nice with some sun but very little wind. At first light a flock of teal dropped in on our dekes. I managed to shoot 1 and as we're looking for that duck 3 others came racing by and I managed to drop one. It turned out to be a scaup. Clint got 2 buffleheads and 1 teal. Saturday was cloudy and raining. Tim joined us and we set out for a morning Saturday hunt. We got skunked and didn't even get to shoot a duck. Saw a flock of geese fly by and a few ducks up high. I had to go home and Tim and Clint went back for a late afternoon shoot. They got a flock of buffleheads set down on their dekes and managed to shoot 4.

Mossberg 935

2 weeks of no hunting. Weather has been crazy with storm after storm and high winds. We've been unable to hunt, but I've seen birds hunkered down at the Nisqually refuge. In the meantime I got to finalize my decoy set for this season. I have a couple more changes for next season, but for the most part I've got a good set-up for the rest of this season.

I also pulled the trigger and bought my first gun ever! I took advantage of a discount from Cabelas and bought a new Mossberg 935 autoloading shotgun. It's got the duck camo, 28 inch barrel and chambered for 3.5 shells. I hope to try and shoot a couple of those bad boys soon.

More Duckin'

This last weekend was good duckin'. We all got up at 4 am and set up my dekes at the ditch. The first light shoot was outstanding. I hammered 2 greenheads right off the bat. I got a total of 3 greenheads and 1 lost bird. Sunday was windy and tough but we managed to scratch a couple of birds. I put the sneak on a flock of lesser geese and shot 1 down. I also took a widegeon on a pass shoot. Probably my best shooting this season - they were head shots and high.

Duckin'

Tim, Clint and I were at it again at the ducks spot. Geese was close for this hunt so it was just ducks. Day after the storm, the birds were moving and it was a good early morning shoot but there was a lot of missing. Other hunters were around and we couldn't get the birds down to the dekes. It was a pass shooting game. We only hit 7 birds. I lost 3 birds but shot down a hen mallard and merganser. The next day it was foggy and we were able to get some birds down at the dekes. We bagged 11 birds. I shot 3 green-winged teal. It was hella fun.
