Neah Bay 2008

My annual trip to NB is in the books. This time I had my own boat! It was a great trip as we spent a full 7 days fishing. Sunday through Wednesday was slow due to the weather. I was forced to stay close and wasn't able to dial in on the fishing inside the strait. I also couldn't find the halibut in Canada. I burned some miles going to Canada only to find nothing, then running to the WA coast to try and salvage the day.

Finally on Thursday after a morning of basically burning gas in Canada almost reaching Bamfield, I turned the boat around and headed for Tatoosh. We decided to fish the Table Top area and found the coho. We limited fast and also went to get our rockfish limits. That was pretty much the routine until the last day when we tried fishing at first light infront of Waddah island for Kings. We went 2 for 4 with the Kings. I wish we would have known and we would have done that every morning.

Kandi hooked a huge King that we lost by the boat while we were fishing for rockfish off Cape Alava. That fish was huge! It sucks that we didn't capitalize.

Du-bro Rod Holders

Wanted to make the cabin space in the boat more efficient. I found Du-bro rod holders in the Cabelas catalog and ordered it. I spent this morning installing it on my ceiling. Pretty straight forward and I think it looks great.

Sunday Morning Crab

Went back out on the water. Just me and Matt this time. Very quiet morning as we were the first boat at the spot.

We elected to attach some more buoyancy to the crab flags so they wouldn't sink completely underwater. I think it worked, but we also didn't stay to find out.

Crabbin' with the Angs

Fourth of July long weekend for us. Friday I worked on the boat, the yard, and the house. Saturday is play day. I invited a co-worker and his family to a crab outing. We hit Zittles again at around 5:15 a.m.

We got to the spot and dropped our 4 pots on the slack tide. Definitely good crabbing during the slack. We took 9 dungies and 5 red rock. Fun day, except for we almost lost 2 pots when the tide started going out. I thought the long rope remedy was going to work....it didn't. Luckily the flags popped back up after we took a cruise around Anderson Island.
